Commitment required: Victim Support Advocates must be able to commit to a minimum of one, 3-hour shift per week for one year, as well as orientation and training.
Typical Shift: 3-hour shifts Tuesday-Friday during business hours (typically 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm)
In this role you will:
Support caregivers while interviews are being processed ensuring all immediate needs and concerns are addressed.
Provide support, information, and resources to children, youth and families that are referred to the Luna Centre.
Ensure that children, youth, and families have an accurate understanding of the different components of the process at Luna Centre and that they know who to go to for specific questions (connect the pieces for the families).
Be a consistent and continual support to children, youth, and family providing ongoing support and follow up throughout their entire process through Luna Centre.
Conduct over the phone or in-person follow-up after appointments, interviews, etc. as directed by the family’s needs.
Administrative tasks such as email, data entry and file review.
Documentation of all interactions and conversations.
What we are looking for in this role:
Interested and enthusiastic about providing support, information, and resources to children, youth, and families where sexual abuse or serious physical harm of a child has occurred.
Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate maturity, reliability, and punctuality as well as a strong work ethic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
Sensitivity towards family histories, potential impacts of previous experiences, and cultural differences.
Desire to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system and it processes is considered an asset.
