Victim Services At Luna: Supporting Children, Youth, and Families Every Step of the Way
At Luna Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, advocacy is at the heart of everything we do. Advocacy means championing the needs and rights of children, youth, and families impacted by abuse, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need during an incredibly challenging time.
Advocacy at Luna happens on a deeply personal level through the work of our dedicated Victim Services team. This team, which includes Family Support Coordinators, an Indigenous Liaison, a Child Life Specialist, Court Coordinators, Volunteer Advocates, and Facility Dogs, is there to provide direct and compassionate support to families referred to Luna by our partner agencies. These agencies include Calgary Police Service, Alberta RCMP, Alberta Health Services, and Children’s Services.
From the moment a family arrives at Luna, our Victim Services team works tirelessly to ensure they feel supported and informed. Their advocacy includes:
Liaising with other victim services to make support more accessible.
Providing guidance and emotional support from first entry to court and beyond.
Helping families understand every step of the process.
Answering questions by connecting families with the appropriate professionals.
Offering referrals to additional agencies and support networks.
While we cannot predict or influence the outcomes of investigations or court proceedings, we are steadfast in listening to and elevating the voices and priorities of children and youth. Our goal is to ensure every family has access to relevant supports and feels empowered throughout their journey with us.
These services are available for as long as families need them, ensuring no one has to navigate these complex systems alone.
