Happy 10th Birthday, Luna!

The Calgary Tower celebrated our 10th anniversary this weekend by lighting up in blue!

This year, we are celebrating 10 YEARS since Luna became Calgary’s child and youth advocacy centre. In this last decade, thanks to our incredible team and community champions, we have been able to light the path to healing for more than 15,000 young people and families.

On February 23rd, 2013, the very first child was interviewed by Calgary Police Service here at our Centre! Just one day earlier, the Centre’s first group of partner organizations—including Calgary Police Service, Children’s Services, Alberta Health Services, and Alberta Justice (RCMP joined in 2014)—had physically relocated to this space, and on May 23rd, 2013 we celebrated our official grand opening as the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre.

Prior to the Partners coming together to form our child advocacy centre, children and youth who experienced abuse often experienced multiple entry points and the responses to child abuse were less integrated. Today, young people and families have a safe space to share their stories; a place where they are believed, and where they have a caring team of experts who work together to ensure they have the support they need in every phase of their journey.

Together, we have made an indelible difference in our community. And we are just getting started! There is so much work left for us to do as we strive to realize our shared vision where all those impacted by child abuse receive the support they need to heal and thrive; where offenders are held accountable; and all children and youth are safe.

Here’s to another 10 life-changing years!

If you would like to help us celebrate our 10th anniversary, the best birthday gift you could give is to make a donation to ensure Luna can continue supporting children and youth impacted by abuse for many more years to come. And right now, your donation will be matched up to 50% by Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink.
