Commitment required: Court Administration Advocates must be able to commit to a minimum of one, 3-hour shift per week for one year, as well as orientation and training.
Typical Shift: 3-hour shifts Monday-Friday during business hours (typically 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm)
In this role you will:
Contact victims and caregivers to confirm their wishes for trial supports.
Complete referrals for the Court Preparation through the Canadian Child Abuse Association (CCAA).
Complete referrals for a facility dog through the Victim Assistance Team (VAST).
Complete referrals for a support person through the Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST).
Provide support, information, and resources.
Administrative tasks such as email, data entry and file review.
Document all interactions and conversations.
What we are looking for in this role:
Interested and enthusiastic about providing support, information, and resources to children, youth, and families where sexual abuse or serious physical harm of a child has occurred as they move through the court process.
Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate maturity, reliability, and punctuality as well as a strong work ethic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
Sensitivity towards family histories and cultural differences.
Desire to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system and it processes is considered an asset.
