Commitment required: Child Space Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of one, 3-hour shift per week for one year, as well as orientation and training.
Typical Shift: 3-hour shifts Tuesday-Friday during business hours (typically 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm)
In this role you will:
Greet families as they enter the Child Space in a friendly and sensitive manner.
Engage children in positive play opportunities that promote optimal development, self-expression, and a sense of familiarity and control.
Share talents in arts, craft-making, music, etc. with children who wish to take part.
Maintain an overall tidy atmosphere and assist with cleaning the space and toy cleaning as needed.
Support the Child Life Specialist and other Luna staff members in projects and other duties as requested.
What we are looking for in this role:
Interested and enthusiastic about providing a safe, warm, and caring atmosphere for children and their families children and families that are dealing with child abuse.
Comfortable providing safe supervised play experiences in a warm and caring manner that is sensitive to each child and family’s needs.
Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate maturity, reliability, and punctuality as well as a strong work ethic.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
Sensitivity towards family histories, potential impacts of previous experiences, and cultural differences.
Desire to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
