2024 Teacher's Convention Recap
In Alberta, Teachers’ conventions were established through legislation to provide teachers the opportunity to engage in ongoing learning to enhance their professional skills on an annual basis. Teachers select from hundreds of sessions to explore their teaching practice, review their changing roles in the school, become aware of innovations in teaching, participate in a discussion of emerging trends, challenges and issues, as well as participate in professional development.
Teacher's Convention 2024 had over 12,000 attendees from the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Catholic School Districts in attendance. Four-thousand of those attendees came from communities outside of Calgary including: Okotoks, Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane and Strathmore.
For the second year in a row, Luna was present at both The Calgary City Teacher's Convention (CCTC) and The Palliser District Teacher's Convention (PDTCA). Luna hosted an eye-catching booth on the exhibition floor and our partners supported us in presenting seven engaging speaker sessions on topics that included: Burnout, Consent, Internet Safety, Being Trauma Aware and Reporting Suspected Abuse. A Big Thank you to Anita Swanson, Cailey Hartwick, Krista Andrews and Sarah MacDonald for traveling downtown to partner with Luna staff to present at the conventions.
Luna’s primary goal for being present at the teacher's convention is to engage directly with educators to share who we are and what we do, to promote our professional development prevention services, and to learn about the concerns that educators are facing on the front line. Traffic at our booth was exciting, fast-paced and exceptionally busy. Teacher’s Convention 2024 was a great success thanks to the hard work of so many Luna staff and partners.
